Earl Francis Upton
Services for Earl Francis Upton, 75, of Lawton, Oklahoma, were held on June 13, 2001 at the Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. William F. Watkins, associate pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating.
Mr. Upton died on Sunday, June 3, 2001 at his home.
Entombment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum.
He was born on September 8, 1925, in Shelburne, Massachusetts, to Earl Washburn and Evelyn May (Domin) Upton. He graduated from Crittendon High School in Buckland, Massachusetts. He joined the United States Navy on September 7, 1943 in Greenfield, Massachusetts. He served during World War II and received the World War II Victory Medal, the American Area Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal, European African Middle Eastern Medal and Point System. He was honorably discharged on March 20, 1946, in Boston. He married Nancy Marie Leaf on May 4, 1946 at Greenfield, MA. Mr. Upton was a school bus driver for 30 years. He was a Cub Scout leader, volunteered as an EMT and was a resident of Nelsonville for 50 years. He was a member of the Cold Spring United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Marie Upton; two sons, E. Carl Upton of Rhinebeck, NY and David B. Upton of Portland, Maine; two daughters, Ruth Ritter of Marlow, Oklahoma and Sandra Murphy of Lawton, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
