New Year Brings A New Sheriff To Putnam County

Sheriff Donald B. Smith was sworn into office this New Years Day, 2002 in Carmel. County Executive Robert Bondi administered the oath of office to the new Sheriff, while Legislators Regina Morini, Tony Hay and Arne Nordstrom witnessed the ceremony at the County Courthouse.

"He’s done an outstanding job in his public service at a National level and here at the County level," said Bondi of Smith, the man who has worked as his second in command for the past several years. "There is no question in my mind he will be an outstanding Sheriff for Putnam County."

Bondi said that there has been no discussion yet as to who will fill the Deputy County Executive seat that Smith vacated to become Sheriff.
