Haldane Wrestling Doing Well Despite Small Team Size
The Haldane Varsity Wrestling Team is now about midway through its season having begun their season with team conditioning just before the Thanksgiving break. The first match was on December 6. The team this year, led by Coach Nick Mastrantuono, consists of only eleven members out of the 15 weight classes. The shortage of people filling weight classes makes it virtually impossible to win a match because every weight class missing is forfeited. Most other teams fill the classes so Haldane automatically starts down many points. However this year the team is working for more individual results rather than team victories. The team is as follows; Ben Levine at 96 lbs, Dan Fortini at 112 lbs, Brian Rubino at 125 lbs, Casey Guinan at 130 lbs, Captain Will Helbock at 135 lbs, Nick Mastrantuono at 140 lbs, Sean Barker at 160 lbs, Captain Garth Merandy at 171 lbs, Captain Nick Vetere at 215 lbs., Ray Prota also at 215, and Matt Monroe at 275 lbs. This season the team has welcomed three new wrestlers, eighth grader Ben Levine, freshman Dan Fortini, and sophomore Sean Barker. Each of these wrestlers work hard and continue to improve. They all show promise for the future.
