More Volunteers And Activities Needed For Local Youth To The Editor,
This week, The White Pond Center in East Fishkill, New York suffered not one, but two break ins, causing damage and destruction to a community center that has served the Southern Duchess and Northern Putnam areas for decades. This disruption caused 10 three year olds and 13 four year olds to miss programs. It also forced at least 12 families to cancel appointments, alter their work schedules, and locate childcare, so that they could pitch in to whip the building back into shape. The total cost of this destruction has yet to be determined. How ironic that a center whose mission is to provide a safe place for children and families has been victimized. This clearly demonstrates the need for more activities geared for our local youth and an even greater need for instructors and adult volunteers.
