Legislature Supports Buddy Poppy Program Putnam calls on State to carry Medicaid costs
One sure sign that Memorial Day is approaching is the familiar sight of red Buddy Poppies. At their May 7 meeting, the Putnam County Legislature did its part to honor the Veterans of Foreign Wars by issuing a proclamation in support of their Buddy Poppy program. In it, they urge all citizens to show their gratitude for those who sacrificed their lives for our freedoms by purchasing poppies from the veterans who are out in force accepting donations. Disabled veterans make the poppies and the proceeds are used to benefit disabled and needy veterans and the widows and orphans of deceased veterans. Full Story

Civil War Veterans Group To Hold Memorial Service Honoring Civil War Veterans Buried In Nelsonville
The Admiral John L. Worden Camp 150 of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War will hold a short Memorial Service at the Cedar Street Cemetery in Nelsonville on Saturday, May 25th, at 10 am. At least 8 local Civil War veterans and their family members are buried in this small rural cemetery. Others have been identified in other nearby cemeteries.
