A. Ruth Schuman

A. Ruth Schuman, a longtime area resident, entered into rest Monday, December 16, 2002 at Putnam Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Holmes. She was 91.

Daughter of the late William Henry and Grace Anna Clark Griffin, she was born February 10, 1911 in Beacon.

Together with her husband, William "Willie" Schuman, they owned and operated Schuman’s Army Navy Store in Cold Spring for over 40 years. Until residing at the Putnam Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, she was a lifelong Village of Cold Spring resident.

"Foofie" will be remembered as an inquisitive, independent woman who was in many ways years ahead of her time.

She is survived by two nephews, David and Bernard Ruf, and dozens of grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her husband, William Schuman, on December 29, 1963 and her sister, Gertrude Ruf.

Funeral services were private; funeral arrangements were under the direction of Peter T. and William J. Halvey, Halvey Funeral Home, Beacon.
