Philip L. Baumgarten

Philip L. Baumgarten, age 85, of Cold Spring, NY, died on Monday March 31, 2003 at Hudson Valley Hospital Center in Cortlandt Manor, NY after a long illness.

Born in the Bronx, NY on January 14, 1918 he was the son of the late Charles and Mary (Dorfman) Baumgarten.

Mr. Baumgarten was the retired owner-operator of the former Hudson Peddler in Cold Spring; he had been the owner and operator of a Manufacturing and Map Filing business in New York, NY. He was a U. S. Army veteran serving in the Pacific Theater as a Paratrooper with the 4th Infantry Division during WWII and has been a resident of Cold Spring since 1976 coming here from Yorktown Hgts., NY. Mr. Baumgarten was a member and Past President of the Philipstown Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Cold Spring Lions Club, a Volunteer at the J. L. Butterfield Memorial Library and active in the Fall Festival each year in Cold Spring.

He is survived by his wife Ester (Muffs) Baumgarten of the home address, they were married in 1944. Additional survivors are two sons, Ira Baumgarten of Averill Park, NY and Mark Baumgarten of Tampa, FL.

Private graveside services will be held at the Cold Spring Cemetery under the direction of the Clinton Funeral Home Cor. of Parrott and Pine St. Cold Spring, NY. Plans for a memorial service will be announced in next week’s edition of the Putnam County News.
