Sprinkler Fitters Recruit Apprentices

The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Sprinkler Fitters, Local 669 (Hudson Valley), will conduct recruitment from May 1 through October 31 for five apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Linda Angello recently announced.

Applications can be obtained Monday through Friday (excluding holidays), from 9 am to 4 pm at the following New York State Department of Labor Employment Services offices:

601 Development Court, Kingston; 33 Fulton St., 2nd Floor, Middletown; 50 North St., Monticello, 3 Washington Center, Newburgh; 201 South James St., Peekskill; 235 Main St., Poughkeepsie; 11 Perlman Drive, Pascack Plaza, Spring Valley; and 120 Bloomingdale Road, White Plains. Completed applications must be mailed to Sprinkler Fitters, Local 669, PO Box 580, White Plains, NY 10603.

The committee requires that applicants:

• Be at least 18 years old.

• Have a high school or general equivalency diploma.

• Take a physical examination and a drug test at the committee’s expense, after acceptance for the program.

• If a veteran, submit a copy of their DD 214.

Proof of education and veteran status must be submitted at the time of indenture.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
