Al Hosmer Announces Candidacy for Re-election to Philipstown Town Board

Al Hosmer has received the Democratic endorsement for re-election to the Philipstown Town Board. Al, a long-time resident of Philipstown, is a graduate of Garrison Union Free School and Haldane Central High School.

Al and his wife, Helen, will celebrate their 52nd wedding anniversary on September 2nd. They have two children, Michael and Gary, both of whom were born and raised here. They also have four grandchildren. Before retirement, Al, as a NYNEX (now Verizon) management employee, was responsible for preparing, implementing and controlling the Outside Plant Engineering budget.

A US Navy veteran, Al has been very active in community affairs. He is a past president of the Haldane Central School Board, serving on that Board for seven years. A member and past Chairman of the North Highlands Board of Fire Commissioners, he played an integral role in obtaining land adjacent to the Fire Company for building the Little League complex. Governor Cuomo appointed him to the Putnam County Alcoholic Beverage Control Board.

In recognition of his service, the Cold Spring Lions Club honored Al a ‘Lion of the Year’. He also received the highest award given by the Lions International, the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award for dedicated Humanitarian services.

During Al’s tenure on the Philipstown Board the Cell Tower, Timber Harvesting and Steep Slopes laws were passed. In that time the Town also acquired the Town Park, established the Depot Theatre and organized the spring and fall town-wide clean up.

According to Al, "Some of my main concerns now are affordable housing for seniors and emergency services people, along with increased space for Town Hall employees.

"I have the time and experience to work on these issues. And, if re-elected, I look forward to facing and resolving the challenges of the future."
