Al Hosmer Presents Positions on Town Issues
"There are a number of on-going projects facing the next Town Board if we are to keep Philipstown a place people want to live in. Many of these projects will be included in the Comprehensive Plan that the Special Board will present to the Town Board in the next month or so. Their findings will play a major role in the future of Philipstown.
"We have excellent properties available here for both housing and commercial uses but we have to be selective on how these properties are used. For example, we are making strides in cleaning up Route 9. As you may have noticed, the newer buildings there are an asset in that they are much more appealing to the eye. Some still remain an eyesore and we will be working to upgrade their appearance.
"The present highway facilities on Fishkill Road in Nelsonville are also an eyesore. We are negotiating with the state to provide land in a different location for our unsightly collection of equipment and for building a covered salt shed.
"Another high priority issue is housing for seniors and lower income citizens. The Philipstown Industrial Park Project we are working on will acknowledge that problem. According to the proposal before us, twenty of the 82 acres in that project will be donated to the Town for parkland and, on the remaining developable land, 10 units will be set aside for lower income families, especially emergency service people.
"While all these programs may seem ambitious, the previous Town Boards on which I have served have achieved equally ambitious goals. Along with providing regular services, we have enacted Cell Tower, Steep Slopes and Timber Harvesting Laws. We have created a Town Park, supported Depot Theatre programs, rationalized our road names to comply with emergency 911 requirements, and institutionalized our twice-yearly Town-wide cleanup.
"I am proud to be associated with such a competent and hard working Board and look forward, with your support on November 4th, to achieving our goals for the future."
