Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest of Carmel Man

A Carmel man was arrested for driving while his driver’s license was suspended by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department on November 29th. Mr. Joseph A. Ascione, aged 19, of Carmel, was arrested by a Sheriff’s Deputy after he was stopped for a traffic infraction and found to be driving with a suspended license.

According to the Sheriff, at about 3 pm on Nov. 29, Sheriff’s Sergeant Lee M. Stabe was patrolling on Fair Street in Carmel when he reportedly saw Mr. Ascione driving a car and passing another vehicle in a posted no-passing zone. Sergeant Stabe stopped Mr. Ascione and made a routine computer check of the Carmel man’s driver license. That check revealed that his license was suspended for his failure to answer several traffic summonses issued earlier this year. In addition, the computer check disclosed that there was an outstanding arrest warrant for Mr. Ascione, a warrant issued by the Town of Kent Justice Court for a previous charge of driving with a suspended license.

Sergeant Stabe arrested Mr. Ascione and charged him with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the Third Degree, a misdemeanor, and with passing in a no-passing zone, an Infraction.

Sergeant Stabe booked Mr. Ascione on the latest charges, which are answerable in Carmel Justice Court on December 22nd, and then turned him over to Sergeant Carl Champagne of the Kent Police Department on the warrant from that jurisdiction.
