Aurelia Berggren Johnson

Aurelia Ann Berggren Johnson, 91, died on Wednesday, July 30. She had resided at the NY State Veterans’ Home at Montrose, New York for the past year.

At her request, there will be no memorial service. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 16 at The First Lutheran Church Cemetery in Swedesburg, Kansas where her husband is also interred. Memorials may be made to The NY. State Veterans’ Home at Montrose in appreciation of their thoughtful and kind care for Aurelia (198 Albany Post Road, Montrose, NY 10548 - designated for "Resident Donation Fund" ) or to Alderbrook Golf Club (300 E. Country Club Drive East, Union, WA. 98592 - designated for "Aiderbrook Beautification Fund").

She was born in Morganville, Kansas on August 31, 1911 to Emelia and Axel Berggren. She was a graduate of Trinity Lutheran Hospital Nursing School in Kansas City, Missouri and was a World War II veteran serving as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps. While stationed in England she met her husband Lee W. Johnson, also born in Kansas, who was serving as an Army Captain in the Medical Corps. He preceded her in death in 1980 after 34 years of marriage. She was a resident of Washington state for 49 years living in with her husband in Seattle until 1975. They then retired to Alderbrook Golf Community in Union, Washington where she continued to live for 26 years until permanently relocating to New York in 2001.

She is survived by her son Jeffrey Lee Johnson and wife Bridget of Greensboro, North Carolina, her daughter Kay Ann Corkrum and husband Frank of Garrison, New York and four grandsons: Benjamin Carl Johnson and wife Katie of Whitsett, North Carolina, Nicholas Claude Johnson and Bethany Lister of Union,Washington, Kevin Hudson Corkrum and Patrick Lee Corkrum of Garrison, New York. She is also survived by her sister, Frances Berggren Schooley of Hesston, Kansas, nieces Linnea Nikkel, Rose Mina Simmons, Ann Parr and nephew all Oetinger all of Kansas. Her sister, Alice Berggren Oetinger and brothers Harold Berggren and Raymond Berggren also preceded her in death.

The Clinton Funeral Home in Cold Spring is assisting the Johnson family with arrangements.
