Elliott Hammond
Elliott Hammond, age 92 of Cold Spring, NY, died on Friday December 19, 2003 at the Rosary Hill Home Hawthorne, NY.
Born in Chelsea, NY on August 7, 1911, he was the son of the late Ned and Beatrice (VanVoris) Hammond.
Mr. Hammond was the owner and operator, who along with his wife, ran Hammonds Grocery Store on Main St. in Cold Spring until 1976. A 71 year Cold Spring resident, he was a member of the Cold Spring Lions Club, a member of the Cold Spring Fire Co #1 since 1938, and a member of the Redman’s Club in Beacon, NY. Mr. Hammond was for many years a very avid bowler in several leagues and loved playing bingo.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years Jessie (Phillips) Hammond, one son Elliott Hammond of Cold Spring, NY, two daughters, Kathleen O’Connor of Cold Spring, NY and Caroline Harlan of Tucson, AZ. Twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive him. Mr. Hammond was predeceased by two brothers, and four sisters, he was also predeceased by one granddaughter.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday December 23, 2003 at the Clinton Funeral Home Corner of Parrott and Pine St. Cold Spring, NY. Interment followed in Cold Spring Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made in Mr. Hammond’s name to the Rosary Hill Home 600 Linda Ave. Hawthorne, NY 10532.
