Kary Patricia Heuston 1961-2004

Kary Patricia Heuston passed away in New York, the city she loved, on Saturday, February 7, 2004. She was born September 5, 1961 in Cold Spring to Nancy and Dustin Heuston. From the time of her premature birth, Kary was in a hurry to live life deeply and well. After graduating from BYU, she earned a PhD in psychology from Harvard University, did post-graduate work at Yale and NYU, and received an MD from the University of Utah. She married Roland Monson in the Salt Lake Temple December 22, 1986; they later divorced. Their son, Nathaniel Burton Monson, was the light of her life.

Kary was a woman with the heart of a warrior, heedless of any sacrifice required to achieve what she knew to be good and important. Her life’s purpose was to bless those in need of healing and we thank God that she is free at last to devote all of her fine mind and capacious heart—and her infectious sense of fun—to that endeavor. She is survived by her son, Nathaniel, of Swarthmore, Pennsylvania; her parents, Nancy and Dustin Heuston of Salt Lake City; her grandmother, Constance Moebus, also of Salt Lake City; her four sisters and brother: Kimberley Sorenson of Sandy; Kelley Heuston of Salt Lake City; Heather Rosett of Sandy; Hilary Heuston of New York; and Benjamin Heuston of Draper; and twelve nieces and nephews. Her family will honor her with a private memorial service.
