Peter Sebastian Maier
Born in Munich, Germany on August 1, 1987, Peter Sebastian Maier died at Vassar Bros. Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY on June 28, 2004. He is survived by his parents Reinhold Maier, Born in Kapfenberg, Austria, residing in Munich, Germany and Nancy Tompkins Sobier-Maier, born in Cold Spring, NY and residing in Schweitenkirchen, Germany. He is also survived by his siblings, Gabriella 23, of Eichstaett, Germany, Patricia 19, and Thomas 14, of Schweitenkirchen, Germany.
Peter was the grandson of Mrs. Nancy Tompkins of Cold Spring, NY. He was predeceased by his Grandmother Gabriele Maier of Kapfenberg, Austria. He is also survived by his aunts and uncles, George and Marie Tompkins of Cold Spring, Yvonne Tompkins of Chelsea and Charles and Paula Tompkins of Lawrenceville, NJ, numerous great-aunts and great-uncles and cousins.
Peter was a 10th Grade student at Wohizach Gymnasium (academic high school) when he was struck with Ewings Bone Sarcoma in October of 2003. Peter was interested in athletics, especially soccer and basketball, but the disease confined him to a wheel chair since his diagnosis. Peter was visiting his grand mother and hoping for a miracle cure. The entire staff of Vassar Bros. Pediatrics offered superb care and support as Peter rapidly deteriorated within the three weeks since his arrival in Cold Spring. Special recognition for their emergency services go to the staff of Dyson Radiation and Fishkill Radiation.
The family requests donations be made in Peter’s memory to: The Children’s Cancer Fund 230 Saw Mill River Rd., POB 658, Millwood, NY 10546, of which his doctors Claudio Sandoval and Fevzi Ozkaynak are a part.
Funeral services were be held at the Clinton Funeral Home on Friday July 2, 2004 at 11 am; interment followed in Cold Spring Cemetery.
