Home Improvement Grants Available Through County

The Putnam County Housing Corporation (PCHC) has $300,000 in grant funds from the New York State Affordable Housing Corporation to administer a Home Improvement Program for Putnam County residents. These funds will be used to assist eligible homeowners with repairs such as structural, safety and code upgrades, roofs, windows and heating systems with grants of up to $25,000. Homeowners must be able to provide 40 percent of the cost of the repairs.

A homeowner’s household incomes must not exceed the income guidelines: one-member household, $37,373; two-member household, $42,712; three-member household, $48,051; four-member household, $53,390; five-member household, $57,661; six-member household, $61,932; seven-member household, $66,204; and eight-member household, $70,475. There is also an asset limitation of $15,000 or 15% of the current appraised value of the occupied home (whichever is greater). Assets include any monies in savings or checking accounts, certificates of deposits, stocks and bonds, and the value of any real property less the outstanding debt.

There is a recapture provision for the funding. Funding is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
