Joseph Dye

Joseph Dye age 85 of Cold Spring died on Tuesday January 18, 2005 at the Hudson Valley Hospital Center in Cortlandt Manor, NY.

Born in Moorhead, KY on May 5, 1919, he was the son of the late Jerry and Nellie (Howard) Dye.

Mr. Dye was a retired Staff Sgt., having served in the U. S. Army for 23 years before his retirement in 1959. During his time in the armed forces he served with the 82 Airborne, was an original member of Darby’s Rangers serving in North Africa and Europe. He had been a resident of Cold Spring for the past 5 years coming from Georgia where he had lived for 18 years. He was a member of the D.A.V. in Columbus GA, and a former member of the V.F.W. in Cold Spring. Mr. Dye was a sky diving instructor who brought sky diving to West Point Military Academy. He was the former night manager for the Commissary at West Point, and had been a Military Instructor at Cardinal Farley School in Rhinecliff.

He is survived by his wife Helen (Atkinson) Dye of the home address, one son Joseph Dye, Jr. of Waverly Hall, GA, three step sons, Jerry Allen, Jack Allen, and Gordon Allen, and one stepdaughter, Betty Ann Lyons, all of Cold Spring. In addition he is survived by two brothers, Elwood Dye of Niles, MI and Marty Dye of Niles, MI, two sisters, Dorothy Montgomery of Boise, ID and Aleen Moore of Masfield, OH. Eleven Grandchildren and twenty-one Great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were be held on Saturday morning, January 22, 2005 at the Clinton Funeral Home, corner of Parrot and Pine St. Cold Spring. Interment followed in Cold Spring Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Mr. Dye’s name to the American Cancer Society, Putnam County Unit, 220 Route 6, Mahopac, NY 10541.
