Taglia Chiarella

Taglia (Peggy) Chiarella, age 93, of Cold Spring, died on Monday, April 11, 2005 at the Cortlandt Extended Care Facility.

Born in Italy on June 21, 1911 she was the daughter of the late Francis and Concetta (Vitanza) Gallio.

Mrs. Chiarella had worked for many years as a private duty nurse’s aid in and around the Cold Spring area and the Julia L. Butterfield Memorial Hospital. She had lived nearly her entire life in the Cold Spring area. She was a parishioner at Our Lady of Loretto Church and had been active at Mother Lurana House in Garrison in her later years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph D. Chiarella Sr., who died in July of 1982. She is survived by one son, Joseph D. Chiarella Jr. of Cold Spring; two grandsons, Joseph D. Chiarella III of Cold Spring and Michael Chiarella of Cold Spring; two brothers, Edward Gallio of Florida and Francis Gallio of Florida; one sister, Rose Tompkins of Florida; two great grandchildren, Stacey and Joseph IV; and one great-great grandson, James. Mrs. Chiarella was predeceased by two brothers, Salvatore Gallio and Joseph Gallio, and three sisters, Helen Kastuk, Catherine Sloat, and Esther McKeel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 14 at 10:00am. Interment will follow in Cold Spring Cemetery. Friends may call at Clinton Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 13, 2-4 and 7-9pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Mrs. Chiarella’s name to Philipstown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, PO Box 364, Cold Spring, NY 10516
