Eleanor E. Polhemus, returned Home to Our Father in Heaven on August 21, 2005. She was born on July 12, 1928 in Cold Spring to the late Edward W. Coleman and Virginia M. Starr. Ellie spent the majority of her life in Cold Spring and Garrison. On July 31, 1949, she married her high school sweetheart, Frederick E. Polhemus, who later became a New York State Conservation Officer. They raised their children, Jane (Metzger), Bruyn and Rebecca (Janes) in a loving home along Bear Mountain Bridge Road. While residing in Garrison, she loved her time working and volunteering for St. Phillips Rectory and the Garrison Volunteer Fire Department as well as serving in the local Eastern Star. The latter two she worked and served alongside her beloved husband, who preceded her in death on January 9, 1980. She was also predeceased by her two loving sisters, Gertrude Harris of Cold Spring, and Virginia Chardavoyne of Wappingers Falls, who only passed away last month. Ellie had recently been living in Southern Arizona to be near her children who had all settled in Tucson. She enjoyed her active dogs and spending time around her children, seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

She will be laid to rest after a graveside service at St. Phillips Church in the Highlands, Garrison. An intimate service is scheduled to be held on Saturday, August 27th at 2:30 pm. Friends and family will gather at Ed and Pat Polhemus’ home on route 9D in Garrison. The family invites neighbors to join them after the service in celebrating Ellie’s life.
