Boscobel to Host Young Gardeners Workshops

On Saturday, November 12, Boscobel will have an entertaining hands-on workshop for young gardeners six and older. There will be two sessions, one from 10 am to noon, and one from 2 to 4 pm. The workshops, led by Boscobel’s horticultural staff, will focus on how to force flower bulbs and will include discussions on soil, light, and watering requirements. Each child will take home a clay pot filled with paperwhite narcissi bulbs that should be in bloom for the holidays.

Grown in Israel, paperwhites or “Ziva” paperwhites have huge trusses of scented, pure white flowers and are a wonderful addition to any holiday celebration. There will be extra paperwhite bulbs available for sale for those wishing to plant some at home. The fee for the workshop is $10 per child, including materials. No gardening experience is needed for the workshop. Space is limited, and tickets must be purchased in advance. Please call 845-265-3638, Extension 115 for information and/or reservations.

Boscobel is located on scenic Route 9D, in Garrison. In November and December, hours are from 9:30 am to 4 pm, the last tour at 3:15 pm. The museum and charming gift shop are open every day except Tuesdays, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. The museum and grounds are closed to the public during January, February, and March. General admission is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, and $7 for children six to fourteen. Children under the age of six are admitted free of charge.
