Tractor-Trailer Rollover Closes Route 9 in Philipstown
Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports that a tractor-trailer truck rolled over on Route 9 in Philipstown on Thursday afternoon, December 8th, blocking the movement of traffic in both directions for hours.
Deputies say the crash occurred at about 1:55 pm on December 8. Mr. Travis L. Clark, aged 32, of Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, was driving a 2001 Peterbilt tractor northbound on Route 9 when he lost control of the truck near the Bird ‘n Bottle Inn. The truck-registered to Scarlee Trucking of Milesburg, Pennsylvania-skidded off the road, ran up an earthen embankment, and overturned, coming to rest on its side across both the north and southbound lanes. Sheriff’s deputies cited excessive speed as an apparent factor in the crash.
Mr. Clark was not hurt in the accident but his truck, which was carrying construction debris, spilled its load onto the highway, The overturned truck and scattered debris prevented the passage of traffic in either direction.
Deputies rerouted traffic along detours while two heavyduty wreckers and other heavy equipment were brought to the scene to remove the truck and debris.
