Cold Spring Boat Club Wraps Up Another Boating Season
Cold Spring Boat Club Commodore Thomas McKiernan announced at a recent Boat Club meeting that the Club had hosted 1334 boats from all over the Northeast at its docks at the foot of Main Street. 4485 visitors signed into its visitor’s log, 3493 of them stating they were stopping for meals and 2710 of them saying they were going to the Village’s shops. Typical of the comments was one penned by Hugo Jones of Sleepy Hollow, NY who wrote: “Many thanks for making your slips available so we can enjoy your Village.”
The Cold Spring Boat Club makes its slips available to visitors, providing them with its beautiful location but also providing a no-traffic, no-congestion, no-parking-problem way for them to visit our shops and restaurants.
The Club also provides its tent to local Seniors for lunches by the AARP and other Senior programs as well as allowing local teens to experience the River through a water training and safety program jointly run by Building Bridges, Building Boats and Philipstown Recreation. In addition, the Club has provided a “safe harbor” for boats in trouble on the River. This past summer numerous boats that were in trouble, ranging from minor to quite serious, were assited by Club members and sheltered in the Club’s facilities.
