Math With Manipulatives Offered for Kids Grades 1-6

Sandra Flank, Pace University professor, will present “Math with Manipulatives Grades 1-6.” Manipulatives provide the bridge from visualization of real objects to computation. This course will examine how to use manipulatives to construct meaning for mathematics and then how to incorporate that meaning into teaching. Focus will be on the basic operations and on the teaching of fractions. This course will provide strategies to help students and new ways to explain math to students.

The course will be held on Tuesdays beginning January 24 through March 14, from 4:00-7:00 pm, at Putnam/Northern Westchester Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) in Yorktown Heights.

Registration and fee are required by December 28. For further information please call 914-248-2345.

This workshop is sponsored by the Hudson River Teacher Center at Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES.
