Anthony J. Merando

Anthony J. Merando, age 79,

lifelong Cold Spring resident, died on Thursday, January 5, 2006, at his home.

He was born in Cold Spring on December 30, 1926 to the late Charles and Rose

Giamnillari) Merando.

Mr. Merando was a Manager in the Tool Department for IBM in Poughkeepsie for 38 years, retiring in 1989. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving overseas during WWII. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Loretto Church and former Trustee for the Village of Cold Spring. He had been active in the Cold Spring Fire Company #1 and also enjoyed playing on a traveling basketball team in years past. Mr. Merando was predeceased by his wife, Marie A. (Frisenda) Merando, on September 3, 2002. He is survived by his son, Anthony Merando of Wappinger Falls and his daughter, Anita Culver of DeMoines, WA. Three sisters, Nancy Tompkins of Cold Spring, Mary Merando of Cold Spring, and Nena Stellefson of Nelsonville, and seven grandsons also survive him. Four brothers, Philip Merando, Joseph Merando, John Merando, and Salvatore Merando, and one sister, Concetta Miller, predeceased him.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at Our Lady of Loretto Church, Fair Street, Cold Spring. Interment followed at Cold Spring Cemetery.
