Margaret McKenna, age 91, of Cold Spring, NY, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 4, 2006, at her residence.
Born in the Bronx, NY on October 15, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Annie Cockburn. Her husband, William E. McKenna, predeceased her on March 27, 1980
Mrs. McKenna worked at Palen’s Drug Store on Main Street in Cold Spring from 1949 to 1963. She retired from Haldane School, where she worked as a Teacher’s Aid from1963 until 1984. A Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Philipstown, and former Girl Scout Leader, Mrs. McKenna generously volunteered her time to local organizations as well as area nursing homes. She was also an avid card player and loved to travel.
She is survived by four sons, William McKenna, Jr. of Thornwood, NY, Donald McKenna of Rotonda, FL, Kenneth McKenna of Newburgh, NY, and Richard McKenna of Putnam Valley, NY; and two daughters, Margaret Schatzle and Betty Ann Shields, both of Cold Spring, NY. Two sisters, Elizabeth Hodges and Agnes Mazza, thirteen grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren also survive her. Three siblings, William Cockburn, Andrew Cockburn, and Martha Bailey predecease her.
Funeral Services were held on Saturday, January 7, 2006, at The First Presbyterian Church of Philipstown, Academy Street, Cold Spring, followed by interment at Cold Spring Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Philipstown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, PO Box 364, Cold Spring, NY 10516. Arrangements were under the direction of the Clinton Funeral Home, Cold Spring, NY.
