Virginia C. Piser

Virginia C. Piser, age 92, of Cold Spring, NY entered into eternal rest on Thursday, January 26, 2006 at Wingate at Dutchess in Fishkill, NY.

Born in Manhattan on March 6, 1913, she is the daughter of the late John and Eliza (Doherty) Corcoran.

Mrs. Piser was a Telephone Operator for New York Telephone in Manhattan, retiring in 1975 when she moved to Cold Spring from the Throgs Neck area of Bronx, NY. A very active and ambitious woman, she had also worked as a Bookkeeper for J.C. Penny and later as a Cook for The Marist Brothers. She also enjoyed working at the Nutrition Center at St. Mary’s Church. She was very patriotic and gave generously to aid the wounded troops in Iraq.

Mrs. Piser is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Richard Bassford, of Cold Spring; two grandchildren, Richard Bassford, Jr. and Valerie (and Michael) Bassford Moore; and one great-granddaughter, Brittany Bassford. One daughter, Genevieve Lerner of Wappinger Falls, also survives her. She was predeceased by one daughter, Laurelee Bokos, and eleven siblings.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 am on Monday, January 30, 2006 at St. Mary Mother of the Church, Fishkill, NY. Interment followed at Cold Spring Cemetery. Arrangements, made under the direction of the Clinton Funeral Home, 21 Parrott St., Cold Spring, NY.
