Elizabeth M. Christian

Elizabeth "Betty" M. (Barger) Christian, age 85, a long-time resident of Nelsonville, NY died on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at Life Care Center of Lawrenceville, GA. Born in Cold Spring, NY on May 25, 1921, she is the daughter of the late Clayton and Clara May (Baker) Barger.

Mrs. Christian was a retired cashier and store clerk, having worked for Pete's Hometown Deli and Woolworth's. She also worked as a Postal Clerk for Nelsonville Post Office. Mrs. Christian was an active volunteer with the Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, and Nelsonville Fire Co. Auxiliary. She also belonged to the United Methodist Women and was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Cold Spring.

Mrs. Christian was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, John R. "Jack" Christian, Sr. on September 23, 2005. They were married January 12, 1941. She is survived by three children; Gail Byrnes of Atlanta,

GA, John R. Christian Jr. of Beacon, NY, and Alan Christian of Wallkill, and one sister, Pearl Tompkins of Nelsonville. Five grandchildren; Terri Aasen, David Christian, Michael Jones, Bryan Christian, and Heather Byrnes, and four great-grandchildren; Luke and Jake Aasen, Emily Jones, and Sara Elizabeth Jones also survive her. One brother, Walter Barger and one sister, Bertha Baxter predeceased her.

Funeral services were held on Monday, July 3, 2006 at the United Methodist Church of Cold Spring. Interment followed in Cold Spring Cemetery. Arrangements were made with Clinton Funeral Home, Corner of Parrott and Pine Sts. Cold Spring.
