Carmel Man Arrested for Trespassing at Local Hospital
Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the May 11, 2006 arrest of a 54year-old Town of Carmel resident on trespass charges following a dispute with hospital staff.
At about 5:26 pm on May 11th, Deputy Sheriff Robert Hudson responded to Putnam Hospital for a report of an uncontrollable male. Upon arrival, Deputy Hudson initiated an investigation into the report, which revealed the defendant went to the hospital to demand his wife, a patient, be released. The defendant became increasingly agitated and hospital staff repeatedly told the man to leave. He refused to comply with the orders and began yelling and banging on windows. Hospital staff subsequently
called 911 and Deputy Hudson, along with officers from the Town of Carmel Police Department, responded to the call. The defendant, who is not being named because doing so would identify his wife, was taken into custody.
Deputy Hudson charged the defendant with Criminal Trespass in the Third Degree, a class A misdemeanor punishable upon conviction by a maximum term of one year in jail and a maximum fine of $1,000, as well as Disorderly Conduct, a violation punishable by a fine. The defendant was arraigned before Carmel Town Justice James Reitz and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $500 bail. He is scheduled to return to the Town of Carmel Justice Court on May 16, 2006.
