Sheriff's Department Offers Boater Safety Course

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith announces that the Sheriff's Department will hold a two-day New York State Boater's Safety Course for area residents. The course is an important requirement for persons between the ages of 10 and 18 years who intend to operate any type of motorized watercraft on state watersIn addition, persons of any age must successfully complete the eight-hour course to operate a personal watercraft (" PWC).

Certified Sheriff's Department instructors will hold the eight-hour course on June 6th

and 8th in the public training room at the Department headquarters, located at 3 County Center in the Hamlet of Carmel. The course time is 6 to 10 pm on each evening, and participants must attend the full eight hours of instruction to obtain course credit and a certificate of completion.

Interested persons are encouraged to register early, as class size will be limited to the first thirty registrants. To register for the course, call Deputy Sheriff Richard Mansfield at 845-225-4300, extension 489.
