Cold Spring Trees are Not Urinals Editor:
Trees are not toilets.
As homeowners and adjacent neighbors to the Haldane ball fields, my husband and I are thrilled with the recent improvements to the property. Tony and the grounds keeping staff have been doing a superb job and the changes are being enjoyed by many in our community. We have a direct view of the fields and see them being used now more than ever.
Sadly, one thing hasn't changed. Despite the presence of the port-o-john, we frequently see boys using the trees as urinals, in full view of our home, and those around us.
I recently saw a mother allowing her young son to "go" on a tree just outside of our back yard. When I pointed the toilet out and suggested that her son use that instead a tree she stated that she didn't like him to have to use a dirty bathroom. Really? Well, I don't like having to look out of the kitchen window or walk out of our back door and see children exposing themselves.
So, please, parents and children of Cold Spring, exercise some decency and civility and use the toilet provided. Not only is public urination crude, it's against the law.
