GUFS Explorer's Club at Local Natural Areas
by Pete Salmansohn

This spring a dozen students from the Garrison School participated in an adventurous after-school enrichment program called The Explorers Club, sponsored by Constitution Marsh Audubon Center. Under the guidance of Pete Salmansohn, the group explored local natural areas, from the Garrison School Forest to Philipstown Park. Students were especially excited when they found hundreds of salamander eggs and lots of newts, insects, frogs, and leeches in

a woodland pond. They climbed down to Phillips Brook Falls and up to the North Redoubt, put on blindfolds and used other senses to find their way in the forest, and played camouflage games in the woods. Wendy Lindbergh coordinated the registrations, and Suzie Gilbert and Tim Young assisted with chaperoning and driving. The Explorer's Club has also been part of the after school program at Haldane, and will be back in action next school year.
