Victor E. Carlson

Victor E. Carlson, age 82, of Cold Spring, died on Friday, June 23, 2006 at Rosary Hill Home in Hawthorne, NY.

Born in Kingston, PA on September 15, 1924, he is the son of the late Victor E. and Marie (Jensen) Carlson.

He was the owner and operator of Carlson's Greenhouse in Cold Spring, which he and his wife founded in 1962. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 in the Pacific Theater.

Mr. Carlson has been serving for over 20 years on the Zoning Board of Appeals for the Town of Philipstown and has served on the Zoning Review Committee for over eight years. As a member and past President of the Cold Spring Lions Club, he received the Lion of the Year Award, the Uplinger Award for his many years of service, and the Melvin Jones Award, one of the highest honors of Lionism. He was also a past President and charter member of the North Highlands Fire Co., a member of James Harvey Hustis Post #2362 VFW, and he belonged to Cooperative Extension. Carlons was a member of St. Mary's Church in the Highlands.

Vic Carlson was predeceased by his wife, Josephine M. (Cornelius) Carlson on January 29, 1996. He is survived by one daughter, Diane (and Robert) Phillips of Cold Spring, one son, Victor (and Lily) Carlson of West Fulton, NY, seven grandchildren, Debra (and Keith) Gragert, James Phillips, Robert Phillips, Vicki (and Mike) Hommel, Veronica (and Qadir) Din, Amy (and Sinclair) Schuller, and Victor Carlson. Two brothers, Robert Carlson of PA and William Carlson of MI, one sister, Dorothy Albee of FL, and two great grandchildren, Andrea Din and Leah Hommel, also survive him.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, June 29, at St. Mary's Church in the Highlands, Chestnut Street, Cold Spring, followed by interment at Cold Spring Cemetery. Friends may call at Clinton Funeral Home, 21 Parrott Street (corner of Parrott and Pine) from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Wednesday, June 28. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Carlson's name to Rosary Hill Home, 600 Linda Avenue, Hawthorne, NY 10532.
