Mekeel's Corners Chapel to Hold Fourth of July Service

The Mekeel's Corners Chapel Association is pleased to announce it's annual Independence Day service at 10 am on Tuesday July 4, 2006 at the Chapel. Says Edward Cleary, President of the chapel's board, "What better way to celebrate the birthday of our nation? The service is given each year in thanksgiving for this great country." Various organizations and local community members will be taking part in the service, such as the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War, who will be returning again this year.

The Chapel was built in 1867 on land donated by Thomas and Susan Mekeel and James Smith. It was a

Methodist Chapel until 1949 when the congregation disbanded. Helen Fahnestock Hubbard, whose land adjoined the Chapel, helped to restore the it in 1961. The Chapel Association Was then formed to continue to maintain the Chapel, which is maintained and used for special services, weddings, baptisms, and funerals.

Anyone wishing to donate to the upkeep of this beautiful Chapel may do by send a tax-deductible donation to Mekeel's Corners Chapel Association Inc., 321 Rt. 301 Cold Spring, NY 10516.

Remember Tuesday July 4th at 10 am at Mekeel's Corners Chapel, corner of Rt. 301 and Rt. 9 in Cold Spring.
