Putnam County Housing Sales Strong in May
Sales of existing single-family homes in New York were strong in May, according to preliminary single-family sales data accumulated by the New York State Association of Realtors. The preliminary data showed a median selling price increase of more than 14 percent statewide compared to May 2005.
Locally, the May 2006 sales total of 77 represents an increase of nearly 21 percent compared to the April 2006 sales total of 64 in Putnam County. The May 2006 sales total rose 8.5 percent from the same period last year, with a recorded sales total of 71. The median selling price in
Putnam County rose 16.4 percent in May 2006 to $442,500 compared to the $380,000 median recorded in May 2005. The May 2006 median price increased 5.4 percent compared to the previous month, which recorded a median sales price of $420,000.
Sales gains were reported in 31 counties in May 2006 compared to the same period a year earlier, while 46 counties reported growth from the previous month. Forty-four counties reported gains in median selling price in May 2006 compared to the same period a year earlier and 36 counties reported gains from April 2006.
