Bannerman Island Offers Weekend Tours for Private Boaters
Private boaters: here is a rare chance to take a tour of the Bannerman Island-Hudson Highlands State Park. Due to interest from the boating community, The Bannerman Castle Trust, Inc. will offer guided tours through a special permit from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. Save 50% of the cost of the tour by bringing your small boat, making the tour $20 per person when you bring your boat. The tours for private boaters are available for three days only on July 1st, 2nd and 4th, 2006
For boaters who wish to attend, note that only shallow draft boats will be able to land at the dock on Bannerman Island. There is three feet of water at low tide. Check your charts to see if your vessel can dock or come near the island on the north side. The east side of the island has an underwater breakwater and is closed for your safety.
Due to limited docking space, boaters will drop off passengers and anchor off the island. You may bring as many people as your vessel can legally hold and you are responsible for your own vessel.
Arrive at least a half hour before your scheduled tour on the island. Tickets can be purchased on the island dock one hour before your tour or by phone in advance.
To secure your place on a tour, reservations are advised. Tour times will be 10 am, 11:30 am, 1 pm, 2:30 pm. 4 pm, and 5:30 pm.
Island souvenirs, including Bannerman books and t-shirts are available for sale on the island. Food will be offered on 4th of July.
