Our Government Has A Stranglehold On Us
Editor:

According to an e-mailed news report I received, Virginia's public and private colleges and universities soon will be required to submit the names and Social Security numbers of tens of thousands of students they accept each year to state police for crosschecking against sexual offender registries.

This government will continue to require of us and from us whatever it wants for whatever reason. We have given our government carte-blanche power over us. The loopholes that have already been inserted into new and amended laws are protecting this president, his remaining appointees and his big business cronies from being held accountable for their criminal acts (i.e. the illegal invasion of Iraq, resulting in the loss of over 2,500 young American lives and numerous thousands more Iraqi civilian lives). That doesn't include the non-published number of security contractors who died in Iraq. Our government hired around 20,000 of them as private soldiers who earn substantially higher salaries than our troops, paid for with our tax dollars. They operate under different rules, as mercenaries do, having to answer to no one.

Those in power who have abused our tax dollars, have caused financial, mental, and physical hardship for millions of people. They have become the untouchables who are only looking out for their interests, not ours. They have tampered with our votes and robbed us blind, requiring us to give our confidential information to them. We relinquished a lot of our power when we allowed the electoral college voting system to put this president in office when the people's votes should have lawfully determined who would be president.

In order to get those new and amended laws rewritten to protect us from further debt, more lives lost, and from losing our homes, money, and identities, we all must actively do our part now to regain much of the power we gave away.
