Haldane Alex Serradas Receives Life Lessons at The US Open

| The US Open Golf Championship held its 106th annual golf tournament at renowned Winged Foot County Club in Mamaroneck. This year, Haldane Elementary School fifth grader Alexander Serradas, known as Alex or Arod to most of his friends, was able to attend his first US Open. His dad had received two tickets to attend one of the practice rounds as a Father's Day present.
Alex's dad told the PCN&R, "I had my first Father's Day present from my son weeks before the match ... when I asked Alex if we should invite one of his friends along for company. Alex answered, 'No, I just want to go with you. It will be just our day.' We arrived early, though not early enough to see Tiger who usually only plays nine holes in the morning then scoots out. Phil was in seclusion practicing at a neighboring golf course.
"Alex and I walked around till we found the perfect spot [where] we could see and try to get the autographs and photos. Yes, photos. Cameras are allowed during the practice rounds.
'After what was a little over two hours standing at the same spot waiting for the professional golfers come our way, Alex had accumulated about sixteen autographs. He ended up collecting between 22 and 24 autographs."
Alex's dad also shared that, after singing Happy Birthday to golfer Fred Funk, Alex was escorted onto the fairway on the second hole; Alex was with Funk as he made his 2nd shot with a 3 iron to the green. "This was a day [Alex and] I will never forget," said the happy dad. He continued, "this one-on-one photo opportunity with Fred Funk, his kindness and thoughtfulness is certainly what our role models should be. A tremendous credit goes to Mr. Funk's caddy Mark who made it all possible."
Serradas concluded, "aside from the wonder of being in the Open, I feel that Alex has gained more character building lessons that day than I could pack inside of a summer. I saw Alex grow personally to another level. His appreciation for the professional hard work and personal commitment was demonstrated for him."
