Privacy and Safety Editor,
I could easily post a blog on the issues of personal privacy and public safety, but I'd like to target our Putnam County neighbors. There isn't a day that goes by that computer hackers are finding ways into our everyday life. Security advisories have recently come out on Yahoo, Google, eBay, PayPal, AOL and the list goes on. I teach seniors on how to use a computer and paranoia has finally hit as they read news articles in print media and on TV. They are afraid to get on the internet, in fear that they have no hope of hiding from predators. Will this trend stop- I think not. Even using the keyboard is subject to "keyloggers". Can we as individuals do anything about this growing problem-again, I think not.
It's up to our legislative leaders to stand up and say, "I can't take it anymore". But where are they? They are creating subcommittees and task forces for PR-we need some proactive action. Why must there be a disaster before our legislators wake up-does it take an identity theft of George W to initiate a program to eradicate the internet predators that are growing in leaps and bounds all over the world?
I guess it's not broken enough to fix yet. The day will come and it will be soon.
