Deputies Were Just Doing Their Jobs
Editor,

Regarding Ms. PortmanLaux' letter defaming one of Putnam County's deputies, I too wear two hats. I am a volunteer with a local ambulance corps and hold a regular job as well. While, as volunteers, we consider ourselves dedicated, most of realize there is a separation between the two.

As an EMT, I have responded to numerous calls with Deputy Dunn, she is and the other deputies from Putnam County are truly dedicated and professional and go beyond the call of duty to assist us on ambulance calls.

After reading the article regarding Mr. Saunder's farm and the deplorable conditions under which these animals were living and the fact that it was reported by an "eyewitness," it seems to me that Deputy Dunn and the other deputies who responded were merely doing their job. What makes the arrest of people who mistreat animals "politically motivated?"

As to Ms. Calhoun's arrest, one would presume she did something to warrant being arrested, again, it seems the deputies were just doing their job. This tells me if you commit a crime in Putnam County, you will be arrested, I like that.

I have seen several letters from Ms. Portman-Laux in your editorial column on various topics, perhaps she has too much time on her hands and the community would be better served if she used that time volunteering.
