Brewster Congregation Escorts Torahs to New Spiritual Home
The congregation of Temple Beth Elohim, under the spiritual guidance of Rabbi Solomon Acrish, will celebrate the holiday of Simchat Torah this year in a most special way. On Sunday, October 15, 2006, in anticipation of the opening of their new building, the 50-year old congregation will complete the reading of the last book of the Torah in their present building and the elders of the congregation will then escort the Torahs as they begin a 2.3-mile journey along Rte. 22 to their new home on Mt. Ebo Road North.
Along the way many congregants will have the opportunity to carry the Torahs under the new Chuppah that was created by the children and families of the congregation. There will be dancing, singing and flag waving along the way. Upon arrival at the new synagogue, the Torahs will be passed to the youth in the Confirmation class who will have the
honor of escorting them into the new building. The celebration will be completed as Rabbi Acrish begins the yearly cycle again as he reads from the first book of the Torah.
The service will begin at 1360 Rt. 22 at 9:45am and the Procession is anticipated to start at 10:30am. The Procession is anticipated to arrive at Mr. Ebo Rd between: 11:30am to noon (time approximate.)
