St. Mary's Invites Animals and Friends to Blessing of Pets to Honor St. Francis of Assisi
Whether they slither, swim, squawk, or strut and bark, animals and their human friends are invited to the Episcopal Church of St. Mary-in-the- Highlands for the Blessing of the Pets, Sunday, Oct. 8, at 4pm. Held on the great lawn, the event will be the parish's fourth annual commemoration of St. Francis of Assisi, known for his love for God's creatures. Typically held outdoors, the ecumenical ceremony involves prayers and a light sprinkling of each pet with holy water. Each also will be photographed
with its owner. In celebrating St. Francis, St. Mary's reflects a hallowed Anglican (English Catholic) tradition and acts in common with other parishes and with Franciscan friars and nuns throughout the world. St. Francis founded the Franciscan order approximately 800 years ago. The church is located at 1 Chestnut St., at the corner of Route 9D (Chestnut Street- Morris Avenue) and Route 301 (Main Street), in Cold Spring. The parish also has a website: www.stmaryscoldspring.dioceseny.org
