Free Breast and Cervical Cancer Screenings at Putnam Hospital Center
The Putnam County Healthy Living Partnership offers free breast and cervical cancer screenings for uninsured and underinsured women 40 and older throughout the year. On Wednesday, October 25th, beginning at 4:30pm, Partnership members Putnam Hospital Center, Putnam Imaging Associates and Medilabs will be offering a free breast and cervical cancer screening at Putnam Hospital Center, 670 Stoneleigh Avenue in Carmel, for eligible women by appointment only.
Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women and the leading cause of cancer death. Fortunately, early detection of cancer can greatly improve the chances for successful treatment. The American Cancer Society's recommendations for the early detection of cancer for individuals without exceptional risk factors include the following: Women 20 and older should perform monthly breast selfexamination; women 20 to 39 should have a clinical breast examination by a health professional every three years; women 40 and older should have a mammogram every year. Individuals at high risk due to family or personal history or other factors should discuss with their health professionals about screening at a younger age. Medicare and almost all private health insurances pay for breast cancer screening.
To make an appointment for the October 25th screening at Putnam Hospital Center or for information about other available screenings, call the Putnam County Healthy Living Partnership at 845-278-6558.
