Putnam County Retired Teachers Association to Hold Fall Meeting and Luncheon
The Putnam County Retired Teachers Association will host a Fall Meeting and Luncheon on Tuesday, October 17 at The Pinnacle Restaurant in Somers at Heritage Hills. The business meeting starts at 11:30am, with the luncheon to follow. After the luncheon. Lou Orfanella, a Carmel graduate, will be the guest speaker. Lou is an English teacher in the Valhalla School District who also teaches writing at Western Connecticut State University. In addition, Lou is a published author of six collections of poetry along with a work of nonfiction. The luncheon is a time for Putnam County retired teachers and administrators to socialize with other retirees and to keep informed on important retiree legislation and events. We invite all Putnam County retired teachers, administrators, and their spouses to join the Putnam County Retired Teachers Association. Membership in PCRTA is $5 a year and the luncheons cost $20.
The Putnam County Retired Teachers Association proudly awarded scholarships to nineteen BOCES students who were nominated by their teachers this year. Money was raised by dues,
raffles, trip fees, and the generous contributions of members.
The Associated has also organized an October walk, to be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, October 24 at Lasdon Park and Arboretum on Route 36, Somers, followed by a 1pm luncheon at Luce Restaurant on Route 100, Somers. The walk will be through the Veteran and War Memorials, which has four distinct memorials that honor all Westchester County servicemen and women who have served their country: The Merchant Marine Memorial; The Trail of Honor; Korean War Memorial; and the beautiful obelisk and statue of nurses aiding wounded soldiers atop this Westchester hilltop at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Although the memorials honor those Westchester residents who served in the wars it consists of different beautifully rendered tributes and must be seen to be fully appreciated. It is a very moving experience for all who take this lovely walk along the memorials.
For further information about these events and joining PCRTA call (914) 277-3901 or (845) 278 - 9250.
