Haldane Soccer Falls to Beacon, Looks to Improve Record this Week
by Ray Gallagher

Adam Rohan 'heads' the ball during the game against Beacon
It hasn't been the best of starts for the Haldane High soccer team, but the 1-5 Class D Blue Devils weren't about to run and hide when Class A Beacon paid the a visit last Saturday. Haldane suffered a 1-0 defeat to the Bulldogs, its fourth setback in a row, when Max Schmidt scored in the 22nd minute. Haldane fans had to like the steady level of improvement from this youthful team, which played well against a school twice its size. Middie Adam Rohan played superbly.

However, since knocking off Hamilton, 1-0, slipping one past opposing goalies has been difficult, as the Blue Devils have been shutout in four consecutive games.

Haldane hopes to improve its fortunes this week as the Blue Devils will take on league rivals

Croton-Harmon (1-2-1) and winless Pawling (0-6) before taking on a challenge from a very good North Salem (4-2) team, which figures to run off with the league crown before contending for the Section 1 Class C title in November.

The Blue Devils, including Paul Richter, Adrian O'Barr, Ethan Lakota, Brendan Galvin, Jordan Kenna, Matt Salcedo, Luis Carchi, Stefan Jiminez (1G), Thomas Fry, Tom DesMarais, Geoff Rohan, Adam Rohan, Bradley Dillon, Peter, John and Joe Scherer, Zach Kane-Seitz, Max Garfinkle, Liam and Ian Gallagher, will have to find ways to build upon the positives from the Beacon game in order to pull out a couple of very winnable games down the road.
