Judge James F. Reitz is Candidate for Putnam County Court Judge
The following is a statement received from Judge James F. Reitz.
"It is a great honor to announce Judge James F. Reitz as the Republican and Independence candidate for the position of Putnam County Court Judge in the upcoming General Election. For the past eleven years, James F. Reitz has been the Judge for the Town of Carmel. His years of experience as Town Judge gives him the temperament and training to listen fairly, with the conviction that the law must be applied firmly and evenly without prejudice.
"As a Judge and a lifelong resident of Putnam County, he takes crime very seriously and, where appropriate, enforces sentences to the fullest extent of the law. He will protect Putnam County as well as the integrity of the position he seeks.
"In confirmation to being tough on crime, Judge Reitz is honored to have our state and local law enforcement support. The Putnam County Sheriff's Dept., PBA, Fraternal Order of NYS Troopers, NYS Fraternal Order of Police, NYS Union of Police Associations, and the Police Benevolent Association of NYS Troopers have endorsed his candidacy. These fine, courageous men and woman who protect our families and community have shown their support for Judge Reitz as County Court Judge based on their work together in the local Courts. No other opponent can claim such overwhelming support from our local law enforcement agencies.
"Crime is not the only issue facing the Courts today. In fact, over 85% of all cases before the County Court in Putnam are Family Law related. Almost 11% of the cases are surrogate related, and fewer than 4% of all cases before the Court are criminal related. Judge Reitz has presided over thousands of civil and criminal cases and the 11 years experience as Carmel Town Judge makes him the most competent and effective candidate handling the important matters entrusted to him.
"Judge Reitz also has 16 years experience in family law and criminal law as an Attorney. His unique qualifications from both sides of the bench, along with his dedication to community service, makes Judge Reitz the most qualified and experienced candidate to serve Putnam as County Court Judge.
"Judge Reitz has a long-standing commitment to the youth in our community. He believes that the best of our community starts with our children. For twenty years, he has devoted his time and energy helping our youth and their families to find solutions through the difficult times. Reconnecting them back to their families, schools and communities, while teaching them to make positive choices in their own lives. Judge Reitz was the recipient of the 2005 Putnam Community Public Service Award.
"Judge Reitz will bring to the Court an exemplary knowledge of the law and the ability to judge with temperament and reasoning. He will listen with compassion and understanding, while being able to make the tough decisions...firm but fair. Your vote for Judge James F. Reitz will support the most qualified, experienced candidate running for County Court Judge.
"Born and raised in Carmel, James Reitz showed his leadership and civic duty early in life by being both class president and captain of the football team. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1986 and completed his Juris Doctor degree in 1989. Upon graduation, he spent a year teaching in the Carmel School District before opening his own law firm in 1991.
"Judge Reitz was elected to three four-year terms as Judge for the Town of Carmel beginning in 1995. He currently resides in Mahopac with his wife Barbara, who has been Program Coordinator of the Putnam County Youth Court since its inception in 1988 and also with his stepdaughter Alyssa Dellaripa."
