Childcare, Face Painting, Harp Music at Haldane Blood Drive November 10
One of the biggest obstacles to generating more blood donations in previous months has been the inability of Putnam County parents with young children to find childcare while they make an effort to save a life.
During the November 10 event, which runs from free professional childcare, provided by Alison Jacoby and her staff of volunteers, will be available in the Haldane Gym so that parents can feel secure in the knowledge that their kids are being taken care of. There will also be face painting by Marie Finucane, for both kids and adults, as well as Harp Music by Joy Plaisted.
In order to deliver the goal of 100 pints of whole blood more than 150 people will have to show up to compensate for the inevitable deferrals that
occur due to various health problems of the potential donors on the day of the drive. In order to increase your chances of being able to donate eat plenty of iron rich foods at least a week before November 10. These include cashews, rice, tofu, dark green veggies, raisins, tomato juice and beans. Make sure that you eat a good lunch the day of the drive and drink a pint of water about 1/2 hour before donating.
High School students (age 16) can donate with parental permission. Students over 17 can donate without permission. To pick up parental consent forms or to get directions to Haldane School in Cold Spring, see school nurse Candy Zgolinski or call her at 265-9254 Ext.125. Remember to bring Picture I.D. or your NY Blood Center ID card.
