Bannerman Castle Trust to Receive $350,000 from New York State Parks EPF Grant
The Bannerman Castle Trust, Inc. has been awarded a $350,000 EPF Grant from The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation . This grant, which is a 50% challenge grant, requires the raising of $350,000 in matching dollars. The grant will fund phase one of the stabilization for the structures on Bannerman Island.
Emergency stabilization to the structures on Bannerman Island is essential because the buildings will continue to deteriorate and this unique historic Hudson River icon could be lost. This grant will fund masonry work, floor joists, sub-flooring and a new roof system for the Bannerman Residence.
The Bannerman Residence will be restored as a visitor and education center on Bannerman Island. It is projected that phase one will be completed in 2008. In 2009, The Bannerman Castle Trust, Inc. will present an exhibit on Henry Hudson to celebrate the Henry Hudson Champagne Festival.
Since this is a 50% matching grant, the Trust, Inc. has to raise $350,000 in order to receive the funding and the Trust is looking for help in meeting this challenge. They are seeking donations from private foundations, corporations and the Hudson Valley community. If you wish to make a donation to help preserve Bannerman Island and to stabilize The Bannerman residence, please contact Neil Caplan at 845-234-3204 or send your tax deductible donation to The Bannerman Castle Trust, Inc., PO Box 843, Glenham, NY 12508.
