Call for Gingerbread Artists and Bakers
Be a part of this holiday season and help make a difference. Help support the preservation of Bannerman Castle and Beacon's Main Street by creating an original Gingerbread house. Create your favorite Hudson Valley Historic home or dream up your own original holiday creation.
The Bannerman Island Gallery at Castle Keep Realty and the Beacon Business Association will host the Second Annual Beacon Gingerbread House Trail and Contest, which will begin December 1, 2006. Artists, bakers, and anyone who loves Gingerbread is encouraged to submit an original gingerbread house for this year's competition. Gingerbread houses will be displayed in participating stores along Main Street, as part of "Beacon's Main Street Gingerbread Trail." The houses will be judged on Beacon's Second Saturday, December 9.
Gingerbread houses should be entirely edible and should have a base no larger than 14" x 14". Houses will be judged for their originality. There will be a professional category and a non- professional category. All houses will be placed in a silent auction. Fifty percent of the funds will be donated to The Bannerman Castle Trust, Inc. to help raise funds to match a $350,000 NYS EPF grant to stabilize the house on Bannerman Island. The remaining 50% will be paid to the artist.
