Holiday Retreats, Crche Display at Graymoor

Every winter, the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement at Graymoor offer interested persons different ways to celebrate the holidays with events and programs that focus on the real reason behind the season.

Beginning December 10, 2006 and continuing until January 8, 2007, one hundred crches from around the world will be on display in the Graymoor Spiritual Life Center. Started by the late Father Joseph P. Egan, SA, the collection features hand-made and mass-produced crches from Hong Kong, Africa, Asia, the Middle-East, North and South America, and Europe. This event is free and open to the public.

The Advent Retreat, December 1-3, focuses on preparing our hearts for the coming of Christ through prayer and reflection. (Cost is $155 per person single occupancy, $110 per person for double occupancy, and includes meals, linens and program materials.)

The Christmas at Graymoor retreat, December 23 - 25, offers participants the opportunity to experience a Franciscan celebration of the Nativity. (Cost is $155 per person, $110

for double occupancy, and includes meals, linens and program materials.)

Christmas Eve at Graymoor - a popular mini-retreat for busy people - begins at 4:30pm with First Vespers of Christmas and the blessing of the outdoor Crche. Ending after a Midnight Mass, it includes a festive Christmas Eve dinner. ($40 per person; reservations required).

New Year's on the Mountain, December 30- January 1, provides the opportunity to give thanks for blessings received during the past year and request continued blessings in the New Year. (Cost is $155 per person, $110 for double occupancy, and includes meals, linens and program materials.)

New Year's Eve at Graymoor - another popular mini-retreat - begins with First Vespers, includes a festive supper, and concludes with a torchlight procession at midnight from the top of the "Holy Mountain" to Pilgrim Hall the first Mass of the New Year ($40 per person; reservations required).
