Connecticut Man Arrested After Stalking Woman

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the November 1, 2006 arrest of a Bethel, Connecticut resident after he stalked an employee of a local business in the Town of Carmel.

On October 31, 2006, the victim arrived at the Sheriff's Office to make a complaint that a man was stalking her. Deputy Sheriff Robert Hudson initiated an investigation into the cornplaint, which revealed the victim, an employee at Rite Aide, was receiving phone calls on her for cell phone from Mr. Jeff Astrologo, 42, of Wipporwill Road in Bethel, Connecticut. In addition to the calls, Mr. Astrologo would show up while she was at work and leave notes on her car.

Despite warnings by the Sheriff's Office not to have any contact with the victim, Mr. Astrologo continued these actions.

As a result of the investigation, on November 1st, Deputy Sheriff took Mr Astrologo into custody and charged him with Harassment in the First Degree. Mr. Astrologo was subsequently arraigned by Kent Town Justice Joseph Esposito, acting on behalf of the Carmel Justice Court and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $1,000 cash/ $2,000 bond.

During arraignment, Judge Esposito issued a "stay away" order, prohibiting the defendant from having any contact with the victim. Mr. Astrologo will appear in the Town of Carmel Justice Court on November 14, 2006. Harassment in the First Degree is a misdemeanor charge punishable by up to one year in jail and a maximum fine of $1,000.
